Today I decided to skip Ethans late afternoon milk - intending to bring his evening one forward a bit so he gets slightly less calories and is more hungry in the morning for me to attempt weaning. In the meantime after dinner BF and eldest son wanted me to cut their hair (shave!) So I got to work, come 9pm and I had nearly finished sons hair when Ethan, who was in his walker in the kitchen with us, starting crying a cry that I had NEVER heard before. Of course I stopped what I doing and panicked a little and picked him up, it wasnt until he kept crying I realised HE WAS HUNGRY! I have never heard that cry! Ethan hasnt been taking his dummy lately but then he did - may be a sign that trying to wean when is really hungry will help, obviously wont leave him too long with out or else he will just scream but maybe longer then I have been. (taken dummy off him now - just got rid of that lol).
He was weighed yesterday and he is now 25lb 11oz and 75cm! We have also turned his O2 to 1ltr and 1.4 at night! Such a star! We are giving him more tummy time and have already seen the benefits, he is starting to move a little on his front! Progress is being made! Tomorrow I have a book launch to go to, but not before school run, dietician appointment and nurse visit, the Friday it is a trip to see local consultant! I wonder what they will all say about his weight gain? Well we are still weaning the oxygen - he is now on about 1.25ltr fronm 1.5ltr though we have to put him back up to 1.5ltr over night. We still dont have a SATS monitor so a nurse is checking his SATS once a day until we ge one. Once a day is not really good enough so I will go on until I get a monitor one way or the other. In my mind for a baby who has been sooo sick and deteriates so quickly we really should have been sent home with a monitor. Of course I know the signs whne Ethan needs more oxygen etc and dont need a machine to tell me, but I think it is important we have one.
In the meantime still struggling with weaning of solids! perservence? who knows what will work! Well we lowered the O2 to 1ltr but have had to put it back up to 1.3 during teh day and 1.5 during the night. We will get there though!
Ethan is still a happy little chappy full of smiles etc, just wish he would start being able to get himself from laying down to sitting etc. Ethan is now 24lb 11oz! He is soo heavy! We have just started to lower his oxygen - he was on 1.5ltr but we lowered to 1ltr - with advice from his local consultant and PCN. But we had to raise it yesterday to 1.2 during the day and maybe have to put it back up to 1.5 at night. Slowly but surely we are getting there. We went to GOSH to see respiratory - they want to do a over night study there to see if he can be weaned off oxygen as we dont have a SATS machine at home. Now that the local consultant is going to give us a SATS monitor hopefully we wont need to. Weaning has taken a backward step, he really doesnt want me or anything else near his mouth. So going to take it back to the beginning I think. He is getting stringer when he is laying on his frotn and moves a little, he loves his Jumperoo which our friends Tara, Stella and Keira have lent us! Just really want him more mobile now and maybe saying a few words. He loves music and likes to rock back and forth to it, holding his hands in the air!
I havent updated for a while, simply because things have been NICE AND QUIET! I much prefer that then the excitment of last year! I have even unpacked Ethans emergency bags, all though I did end up repacking a smaller bag just in case!
Ethan is putting on weight really well and now weighs 23lb 2oz and is 74cm long! The Nissen surgery he had really has worked! He has had some kind of tummy bug though and so we are going through nappies like no tomorrow! Could just be his short gut though. He doesnt have a temperature and is happy. Our friends Tara and Terry have loaned us a Jumperoo, which he LOVES and bouncys all the time! The Physio is really pleased with his progress, he can go on to all fours for a while now! Just need to keep practising and he will be crawling no doubt! He still is not managing to sleep well and wakes during the night for his dummy, which means I am very tired! I have managed to get some free time to met up with old friends and spend time with my older kids and their kids which has been great and nice and relaxing! I have taken Ethan to the park for the first ride on the swing which he loved, he also went down the slide with Daddy! We watched the Royal Wedding together me and Ethan and he seemed to really love the music! Still no real progress with weaning as yet! |
