I Love St Marys
We (Ethan and I) got to St Marys Ethans Ventilator tube was adjusted so it worked a bit better and I spoke to the doctor to inform him of what had happened. His pressures on the ventilator were not that high compared to the pressures GOSH had used and he was not in 100% which was promising. I just felt that he would not be ventilated long.
7 days later and he was still on the ventilator with low pressures but O2 doesnt seem to sit anywhere it kept going up and down. The doctors and nurses (every single one of the here are great btw) tried to take the vent off after 7 days but he was not ready. I was aware this was not good but knew we could get him over this. Just need to make sure it doesnt happen again. which is what should have happened last time!
I spent so much time by Ethans bedside - chatting to the nurses and in the evening taking long walks in Hyde park. Walking is a way I cope with stress - so I walked a lot!
All this and S moved us to the new house too! I was staying in a hotel that St Marys COSMIC charity pays for while Ethan was in ITU. Hmmm The second ITU admission from Southend.
he finally came off the ventilator at day 10. They did a trial of something called CNEP which looked like a turtle shell but was placed over Ethans tummy. It works by creating a vaccum and sucking to create a seal so it can widen the rib cage and as such the lungs. It was an alternative to CPAP but Ethan did not like it. He did have 12 hours of CPAP and then straight onto nasal prongs and Oxygen!
Dr Haibi said to me once Ethan was back on his feet that "his back was against the wall there for a moment" which was the only time that he mentioned he didnt have any other ideas on how to treat him.
He is such a star, my little miracle baby! I was worried about going back to Southend but the Dr's at St Marys spoke to the Dr's at Southend about my concerns. After all after discharge they would be my local hospital and they need to know Ethan before discharge. So Back to Southend I went!
St Marys was fantastic, the nurses were all great especially the doctors. I have a lot of respect for Ethans doctor Dr Parviz Haibibi - I felt very comfortable with him and trusted him completely!
