We finally got to his first birthday! It was a good day with his Aunt Julie and cousins Emma and Jane and Great Nan Sheila came to visit. He got many lovely things - new clothes and a new play gym. It was just so good to have him home. he had to have a splint on his left arm once he came home because of the fracture on his arm, but I think that was more to do with the big fuss made over it all rather then him needing it.
He was a happy little man over his birthday - though we was worried he had a cold as he was a bit quiet in the morning, but he had a good first birthday and I was so very proud! I wrote this on his first birthday.
My Baby Ethan,
I am so proud of you, looking at you smiling and chatting away makes my heart burst with happiness. Some people have said I was chosen to have you and if I was I am proud to be chosen. However I like to think that you would have been born to someone regardless, you have chosen to live.
There have been so many times when we were told that you would be leaving us, and every time I was so scared but knew if you wanted to go then I should not stand in your way. I felt that if you were too tired to fight then that would be your decision and yours alone and I was ready to accept that should it happen. But you wanted to fight, and fight you have done - over and over again, you have such a determination I am sure you are here to teach the world something amazing.
I know we still have a way to go but I am here with you every step of the way, for as long as you fight on - I will fight along side you.
Your brother and sister have been so amazing this past year - you have changed us all. They have not complained that I am away looking after you, and they have not complained about having to visit you in hospital every day. They are wonderful children just like you.
It has been a long year - and a year that has changed me - totally. Little things no longer bother me, who cares if the TV broke or the laptop doesnt work. As long as we are all together and happy nothing else matters.
You make me proud to call myself your Mother
