Ethan is still doing well - he weighs 17lb 3oz! Sitting up for longer periods of time unsupported - which he loves! Clapping his hands all the time and shaking his head when you say to him no. He is weight bearing more on his arms and legs and bouncing on his legs!
Yesterday He developed his first cold - very very snotty nose - stuffy. No real temperature though. Called the PCN out as he was and still is working harder with his breathing. As it always is his SATS were in loe 90's when she go there even though I had turned up the O2 to about 1.75 ltrs. So she wanted to get him checked out at the hospital - so family evening spent on the childrens ward and we returned home in the early hours - with instructions to give more puffs on inhaler. Ethans SATs improved by the time we got there and he was still happy as - so just lots of saline and suctioning was ordered. I must say the hospital - though it didnt feel like home - it wasnt alien to me. I knew the staff and they knew me and Ethan which was comforting.
I slept downstairs with Ethan - I say slept I think I have had an hour - and have regulary given saline and suctioned once as he keeps getting noses bleeds from suction. Have also been giving paracetomol regulary just to make sure he isnt in any pain. He sounds like Darth vader! I have the humidifer
One of my favourite TV shows is Greys Anatomy - which is a hospital based drama. I have watched it for many years and ofcourse in the last year I watch it differently. I now understand most of what of the actors are saying and can read the machines, I find it hard to see incubator and talk of premature or poorly children. But I still watch - and try to switch off. I think it is a sign of someone who has been in intensive cares too long to start to understand hospital shows! It must also be a sign when they begin to be hard to watch.
I used to watch the true live hospital shows as well - there is one on at the moment called childrens hospital - now that is hard watching! I do sometimes watch though - always learning.
I wonder if Dr's watch TV shows like casulty and Greys? I wonder if they see the things I do or I wonder if they see if the mistakes. A bit like police officers watching police dramas I guess. Shouting at the screen when a detective just walks under the do not cross line without any protective clothing.
So anyway I have a stuffy nosed baby - and not too much i can do for him - but just try to keep him comfy and happy!
